About the Tutorial

Introduction to the Validio platform tutorial covering monitoring, validation, incident investigation, and notifications.

The Validio platform is the primary interface for using Validio to monitor, validate, and investigate critical issues in your data. This tutorial is for users who are new to the Validio platform and want a quick introduction to the Validio features. If you want to understand the core terminology first, see Key Concepts and What is Validio?.

By the end of this tutorial, you will have a live monitor on a data warehouse table that detects data quality issues and alerts your team in Slack. It takes about 30 minutes to complete.

Prerequisites

Before you begin, make sure you have the following:

  • Access to a Validio installation with Global Administrator permissions, so you can create and manage resources.
  • A data warehouse you can connect to, along with a credential or service account that grants access to the tables you want to monitor. This tutorial follows a Google BigQuery table, but you can adapt every step to any supported data warehouse. To follow along exactly, use a BigQuery table (or an equivalent in your warehouse) that holds time-series data, such as periodic sales or event summaries.
  • A Slack app for the final part, Alerting on Incidents, so Validio can send notifications to Slack. See Setting up a Slack App for Validio.

What's in this Tutorial?

You will learn how to monitor a data source, validate its data, investigate detected incidents, and configure notifications to stay on top of future issues. If you are new to Validio, this tutorial is the place to start.

Each part of this tutorial builds on the previous part. For example, in "Alerting on incidents" you will configure notifications for incidents you investigated in "Triaging Critical Incidents". It's important that you don't skip any part.
