Looker helps you to explore and visualize your company’s data. Integrate Validio with Looker to track metadata and lineage for your dashboards, looks, and views.

Prerequisites for Integrating with Looker

  • A user account in Looker with the Admin permission set. The admin role allows Validio to automatically generate lineage relationships between Looker and any connected data warehouse tables. For more information about creating this account, see Adding Users and Default Permission Sets in Looker documentation.
  • An API key for the user account. You can generate a new API key from the Users page in Looker. This produces the client ID and client secret that you need to configure a Looker Credential in Validio. For more information, see API Keys in Looker documentation.

Add a Looker Credential

To add a Looker credential in Validio,

  1. Navigate to Credentials, and click + New Credential.
  2. Under Credential Type, select Looker Credential.
  3. Fill in the configuration parameters for the credential type. For more information, see Looker Credential Parameters.
  4. Click Create.

Validio will perform a validation step to ensure that the Looker account can be successfully accessed. If validation passes, Validio will automatically start fetching data and you will be able to view Looker assets and their relationships in the Catalog and Lineage pages. If validation fails, check that you provided the correct parameter values.
