# Managing API Keys

> Create, delete, and regenerate API keys to manage the Validio platform through the Validio API.

In the API Keys settings, you can create, delete or regenerate API Keys. API Keys are needed to manage the Validio platform through the Validio API.

> API keys are workspace credentials rather than people, so they cannot take part in [approval workflows](https://docs.validio.io/v11.1/docs/access-and-settings/approval-workflows.md) as a reviewer. An API key can never approve a change, and in a namespace with approval workflows enabled it cannot create, update, or submit drafts either. Keep approval workflows off for namespaces that you manage with API keys or Infrastructure as Code.

## Create a new API key

To add a new API key,

1. Navigate to **Workspaces > API**. The API Keys section displays all your API Keys. For each API Key, it displays role and creation date.
2. Click **+ New API key** to create a new API Key.
3. Assign a **Name** and user **Role** to the API Key.
4. Click **Create**.

The secret key will only be shown once and cannot be obtained again. To save the values manually, you can copy or download the values of the Key ID and Secret Key.

## Regenerate an API key

If you lose your API credentials, you must either create a new API key or regenerate the credentials for your existing API key.

To regenerate the credentials for an API key,

1. Click the ⋮ menu at the end of the row for the relevant API key.
2. Select **Regenerate API key**.

Remember to manually save the values of your new credentials.

## Delete API keys

To remove an API key,

1. Click the ⋮ menu at the end of the row for the relevant API key.
2. Select **Delete**.

To delete multiple API keys,

1. Select all the API keys you want to delete.
2. Click the **Delete** button.
