## Catalog: Approval and archival workflows

Review dialog for proposed changes to catalog assets

Changes to glossary terms, domains, classifications, catalog assets, and lineage edges can now require a second person's approval, and catalog resources can be archived and unarchived. Enable it under **Workspace > Settings > Catalog approval workflow**.

## SQL Server: Row count metadata validator

Monitor table volume on SQL Server without querying your data. Add the **Row Count (metadata)** validator when you create a SQL Server source or convert catalog assets to sources.

Piecewise anomaly detection (now)

Dynamic thresholds now recognize metrics that move in steps (piecewise constant metrics) and tolerate routine jumps, while unusually large jumps still raise an incident. It applies automatically to validators with dynamic thresholds.

* The lineage **Edges** tab can now show the glossary terms and source system type of each edge's upstream and downstream asset, has a column picker, and can be filtered by upstream or downstream asset (UI-8702, UI-8668)
* Add an optional **Poll interval** column to the sources list, to see each source's polling schedule without opening it (UI-8519)
* Open an asset's lineage with **View asset lineage** in the top menu of the asset overview pane (UI-8670)
* AI assistants connected through the Validio MCP Server can now change a validator's threshold type, keeping its history and incidents, instead of replacing the validator (UI-8590)

### Improvements

* The catalog asset list and its **Location** filter load faster on large catalogs, and their queries stop when you leave the page (UI-8711, UI-8710, UI-8709, UI-8721)
* Incident group pages and a validator's incidents list now reload only for their own incidents, not for every incident in the workspace (UI-8593, UI-8684)
* When the model declines to generate a SQL validator or filter, Validio now shows its reason and suggestion (UI-8669)
* Deleting several users now reports errors together instead of one message per user (UI-8660)
* The MCP `preview-segmentation` tool now returns a summary, so previews of large segmentations no longer fail (UI-8580)
* Long names are now truncated more cleanly (UI-8650)

### Fixed issues

* Connecting an AI assistant to the Validio MCP Server now always asks for your consent (UI-8739)
* Features that use an LLM credential now check that you can use the credential in its namespace (UI-8694)
* Changing several users' roles at once can no longer remove the last user who can manage users (UI-8688)
* The Root cause tab of an incident group now highlights the same related fields as the Lineage page (UI-8667)
* Opening a saved lineage view keeps its anchors, including anchors you edit in the URL, and loads the graph once (UI-8481)
* Lineage properly handles assets, and their edges, from deleted credentials (UI-8343)
* In the catalog approval workflow, **View in lineage** now works on staged term assignments, a draft term can be assigned from its page, and the review dialog stays on the current item after a decision (UI-8653, UI-8646, UI-8645)
* Muting a source from the sources list no longer opens its side panel (UI-8641)
* AI assistants connected through the Validio MCP Server now get correct guidance on `validio_reference_window_filter` (UI-8724)

* SQL Server table and column descriptions and tags are now read into the catalog from extended properties (VR-5956)
* Filter validators by whether they are muted (UI-7899)
* Filter sources by error type (UI-8520)
* The activity log now shows what changed when a resource such as a source is updated (VR-5898, VR-5981)
* AI assistants connected through the Validio MCP Server can now get an incident's debug query, and every get and list tool now returns a link to the resource in Validio (UI-8625, UI-8474)

* Incident summaries now show the value and its difference from the expected range separately (UI-8477)

* Descriptions in the public API schema are now complete and up to date, for example for `Namespace.approvalWorkflowsEnabled` (UI-8626)

### Fixed issues

* Graph tooltips and Slack notifications now format a value and its bounds together, so numbers that are close no longer look the same, including bounds near zero (UI-8544, VR-6005, VR-5989)
* Debug queries and raw record previews on SQL Server sources no longer fail on binary columns or columns with unsupported types (VR-6002, VR-6004)
* SQL Server `timestamp` (row version) columns are now cataloged as unknown instead of as a date, which also stops profiling from failing on them (VR-6003)
* Numeric metrics on SQL Server sources are now computed with full precision (VR-5948)
* BigQuery jobs are now canceled when Validio stops waiting for them (VR-5952)
* Lineage is now built for Oracle queries that use `CAST(MULTISET(...))` (VR-5992)
* OpenLineage datasets with two-part names are now matched to ClickHouse catalog assets (VR-5994)
* The lineage glossary term filter now matches tables whose matching field is beyond the first 100 fields (UI-8276)
* **Suggest edges** on the glossary page no longer times out at the **Matching text** step (UI-8558, UI-8552)
* Archived validators now appear in the **Archived** view when approval workflows are off (UI-8015)
* The metric page no longer shows no data after a backfill (UI-8585)
* The metric graph stays on screen while a validator receives frequent updates (UI-8431)
* Data previews show array values and sample data values as JSON, and keep large integers exact (UI-8392, UI-8456, UI-8413)
* Users with Write on Validators can now set the dimension in the validator wizard (UI-8577)
* Editing a notification rule now requires the Notification Rules Write permission (UI-8455)
* Namespace Admins now see member grants and revokes for their namespace in the activity feed (UI-8586)
* A set application URL can no longer be cleared (UI-8029)
* The markdown editor no longer waits for syntax highlighting to load before you can type (UI-8091)

### Removals

* The `Role` enum and the `globalRole` and `role` fields, deprecated in 7.4.0, are removed from the public API. Use `globalRoleConfig`, `assignedGlobalRoles`, and `roleConfig` instead (UI-6562)
